OMG, Oh My God !!

There has been some controversy on the recent Hindi film, OMG (Oh My God !!), saying that it has depicted the ancient Hindu values in a very bad taste. However, there is a good entertainment value in the film. There is no need to simply generalize and rationalize everything. But we need to know and understand the whole science behind the idols, temples, and prayers. It is true that in some cases these processes are being misused. The idol itself is not wrong. It is only a symbol. It is a metaphor for something higher. The temple itself is not wrong. It is a symbol. It is a metaphor for something higher. The process of prayer is not wrong. The prayer is a process of creating a quality of prayerfulness in us. There is no need to simply say that all the temples are wrong. There is no need to simply say that an idol and an idol worship are wrong without understanding the whole science behind them. The right process of a prayer may lead us to a quality of prayerfulness. And this prayerful…

Joy of Giving - Sir Branson Way

Sir Richard Branson, a British entrepreneur and a billionaire has promised to donate at least half of his fortune to charity. He is a founder of the Virgin Group. He has added his name to the Giving Pledge campaign set-up by the U.S. investor Warren Buffett and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Sir Richard Branson and his wife Joan Templeman have said in their pledge letter that they wanted to use cash from the company to create ‘a healthy, equitable, and peaceful world for future generations to enjoy’.
According to the Daily Mail, they said, “stuff really is not what brings happiness. Family, friends, good health and the satisfaction that comes from making a positive difference are what really matters”
The reports on the poverty in Britain are alarming. Nearly half of all the children living in the most deprived urban areas are living below the poverty line.
The Giving Pledge was started three years ago by Bill Gates, his wife Melinda and Warren Buffett. And this initiative has encou…

Laws of Karma

Karma means doing. It is an action. It is an initiation. It is a direction. Non-action also means doing. It is an act of not doing some act. It is an act of deciding not to do an act. Doing and non-doing is an action and a choice
Let us look into the Laws of Karma.
First law of karma: This is similar to Newton’s first law of motion which says, “Everything remains in a state of rest or motion unless an outside unbalanced force acts upon it”. This law is applicable to material bodies in the universe.
The darkness of a room remains in darkness unless an outside candle of light is brought inside the dark room. Everybody remains in a state of ignorance unless an outside balanced force of wisdom acts upon him. Everybody remains in a state of Tamas unless an outside balanced force of Sattva acts upon him. Everybody remains in a state of Rajas unless an outside balanced force of Satva acts upon him. This is the First Law of Karma. And this law is applicable to all human bodies in the univer…

Significance of the Kumbha Mela

Kumbha is a word for an Urn. It is a word for an earthen pot. The Hindi word for the pot maker (Kumbhar) is also derived from this root. But why only an earthen pot and why not a metal pot? The reason is incredible. Just go back to the third Avatar of Vishnu. It is called the Boar Avatar. It is coming after the first Avatar that is the Matsya Avatar. The first life form is from the water in the form of a fish. The earth is separated from the ocean by the boar. But this is only symbolic. Boar has the quality and an attribute to separate the earth from the water. And this is only symbolic to say that water and earth are not separate. They are one and the same thing. In the process of evolution, the earth got separated from the oceans. The earth is a solid part of the ocean and the ocean is a liquid part of the same earth. This property and attribute of separation and crystallization is inbuilt in the whole process of evolution. In the same way the attribute of dissolution, melting, and…

Newton’s Laws and Spirituality

The third law of Newton says that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. And this is immediate and instant. This means that for every force there is a reaction force that is equal in size but opposite in direction. And all this is again objective and material
Let us look into this law spiritually. When you do good, you may feel good. And when you do bad, you may feel bad. And this too can be immediate and instant. But this is individual and subjective. And this is spiritual. I can not force my good and my bad on the other. You may feel bad when you abuse your son or daughter for no reason at all. You may later on feel guilty for this behavior. You may repent for this action. You may rethink on all this. And this experience can have a transforming effect. This is subjective and individual. And all this depends on an individual’s empathy neurons.
One of the best presidents of America, Abraham Lincoln, says, “When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad. Th…

Vishwaroopam, The Cosmic Being

Let us understand our body at the level of the matter. Our body is flesh, blood, bones, etc. Go further deeper, it is made-up of billions and trillions of cells. Each cell is a living body. Go further deeper into the cells. You come to the very basic building blocks of the matter - electrons, protons, and neutrons. And these electrons are travelling almost at the speed of light. Now compare this body with the universal body outside. The fundamental building blocks of the universe are also the same - electrons, protons, and neutrons. Now connect your own body with the outer universe because both have been reduced to their fundamental constituents. Everything has become one energy. Nobody knows from where it has started and nobody knows where will it end. Everything has become one single energy field. It is infinite. It is boundless. It contains everything that was needed before the big bang and it also has everything that is needed as of now. And it also has everything that is needed t…
